About Us

A warm welcome awaits

Clachan Sands Campsite is on a working family farm, back in 2018 we noticed the site becoming more popular and decided to add an honesty box with a suggested amount of £10 a night. We love having people visit the area and hope they leave feeling refreshed after their visit.

Clachan Sands Campsite is currently under development, this is to help manage the land more efficiently and to preserve the machair habitats the best we can. By having the motorhomes/tents in the same area, it lets the species native to the area untouched.

Clachan Farm has been in the Macdonald family for over 100 years, with Rachel and Andrew becoming the fourth generation.

On our farm we have 40 cows and 240 sheep, the area around the campsite is grazed by the cows in the winter as is it the perfect machair land for them to calf and feed on. In the summer the cows and sheep come off the machair land  it is then used for cultivations and cropping. This way the farm is self sufficient with animal feed, as the crops we harvest in August feed the cows and sheep throughout the winter.

The Isle of North Uist is part of the Western Isles, the population is around 1300 people. Clachan Sands Campsite well situated as a stepping stone for visitors as it is located 7 miles from Lochmaddy Ferry Terminal, and 5 miles to Berneray where the ferry travels to Leverburgh on the Isle of Harris.
